BC Liberal Party leadership candidate Val Litwin made a stop at Parksville’s Morningstar Golf Club to meet with party supporters yesterday (July 21).

Litwin was president and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce until stepping down in August 2020. He joins four other candidates in the leadership race, votes will be cast in February 2022. Litwin said he believes it is crucial for the party to attract young voters.

“That’s the only way the party will survive. We have to evolve and for me a big part of that is 61 per cent of the population now in B.C. is under the age of 40,” he said. “That doesn’t mean we’re leaving behind the party faithful and the wise and the experienced that have done so much for this province and this party, but if we don’t think about succession planning now, there won’t be a BC Liberal Party tomorrow.”

Litwin made stops in Nanaimo, Cobble Hill and Victoria before heading to Parksville. He said he would be campaigning in the Lower Mainland next before returning to the Island. “This is an important part of the campaign trail for me.”

Change is top of mind for the voters he has met on the campaign trail so far, Litwin said.

“They want to see something new and they know it has to be something new because the old brand and program won’t win in 2024.”

Litwin grew up in Victoria. He co-founded a business with 95 locations and is chair of the Forum, a charity that educates, mentors and connects women entrepreneurs in Canada. He is married to a pediatric intensive care nurse and has two young children.
